About Us

Our Community:

We are an intentional school community founded by parents, teachers and friends seeking a unique, progressive education for our children. Serving early childhood through elementary grades, Waldorf Sarasota honors imagination as the heart of every child’s learning foundation to cultivate creativity, courage, confidence and contribution to the world.

Our Vision:

Waldorf Sarasota is a vibrant school community nurtured by teachers, parents and friends to help form healthy, confident, independent thinkers. Waldorf Sarasota students gain a strong social and environmental awareness and see themselves as active members of an ever-changing global community. Our graduates have courage, joy, power, energy for work, and mastery of analytical and critical thinking to impart purpose and direction to their lives.

Our Mission:

Waldorf Sarasota fosters a capacity for self-knowledge that is grounded in a lifelong love of learning. Our inspiring, comprehensive learning environments, Waldorf-trained teachers, and committed, active parents and volunteers, awaken the students’ innate aptitude to be well-versed in practical, artistic, social, and academic skills. Recognizing each individual as a unique expression of body, mind and spirit, we seek to engage students through a developmentally appropriate curriculum designed to strengthen their intellectual, emotional, and physical abilities, so they may meet new challenges.

Our History:

Waldorf Sarasota was founded in 2000 by a small group of dedicated parents and experienced Waldorf teachers. What began as a playgroup swiftly expanded into much-needed nursery and kindergarten programs. Our grade school soon followed, as did more families and more exceptional teachers.

Today, Waldorf Sarasota is part of a worldwide association of independent Waldorf schools: AWSNA. We offer early childhood programs and a comprehensive grades curriculum, currently to 5th grade, and adding a grade each year.

Waldorf Sarasota offers parent-child classes, Waldorf Weekends, adult education classes, free summer programming, and community festivals. We have attracted a world-class faculty and a community of extraordinary families. Many of the children who joined our first playgroup are now thriving alumni, and their siblings are enjoying Waldorf Sarasota.

Our story is unfolding daily. Every new family and each new teacher makes our history richer and our roots stronger. We are looking forward to serving the greater Sarasota Community for many years to come.

Welcome to Waldorf Sarasota.
